What is Upward Basketball?
  • A league where every child plays
  • Every child learns
  • Every child is a winner

Upward promotes character and self-esteem in every child by:

    • Providing an evaluation system that promotes equal teams and opportunities.
    • Establishing a one-hour practice and game each week.
    • Implementing a substitution system for each team, allowing every child equal playing time.
    • Creating the opportunity for every child to learn the skills of the game.

Today's sports culture has created a "win at all cost" mentality.  Upward defines winning as learning and/or teaching lessons in the game of life.  The emphasis is placed on having fun and good sportsmanship.  When your child plays Upward Basketball,  he/she will be able to:

- Practice and play a game every week
  - Get equal playing time
  - Learn techniques to improve his/her basketball skills

- Receive special recognition awards after every game

- Develop new friendships

Along with this unique sports experience, your child will receive the following:
  - Basketball T-shirt
  - Upward shorts & jersey

   -Team Photo

-Upward magnet, Big Story DVD, Parent Guide

  - End-of-Season award

What is Upward Cheerleading?

Upward Cheerleading teaches the fundamentals of cheerleading by focusing on strong skill development and provides a safe, fun and affirming experience.  Learn chants, motions, jumps, cheers and pom routines while making new friends!  Upward Cheerleading squads are determined by age. Squads rotate the teams they cheer for throughout the season. Cheers encourage all players.

There will be one Saturday morning clinic on January 5, 2013 from 9:00 am - Noon offered to help the children learn the cheers, chants, etc. before the squads cheer at their first game.  All cheerleaders are encouraged to attend the clinic. Upward practice promises to be a place where you will learn, cheer and have a lot of FUN!

Each cheerleader will receive:

  • cheer top and turtleneck
  • cheer skort
  • poms
  • megaphone
  • hair ribbon
  • Upward magnet, Big Story DVD, Parent Guide
  • End-of-Season Award
  • Photo

Coaching & Refereeing

Each year we are fortunate to have our parents step up to volunteer to coach and referee.  To coach or referee please indicate so in your online account, when you register your child.  We select our coaches from those who attend the coach training, and those who have prior Upward experience.  We start assigning coaches during coach training.  You do not have to be an expert to coach basketball or cheer but you do have to be willing to coach the Upward way.  All coaches over the age of 18 have to complete a Background check form.

Each coach/referee must fill out an application.  Click here for Coach/Referee Application which will be available on October 12.  Applications will also be available during Evaluations and during Coach and Referee Training on Nov 3 and 10 from 8-10 a.m.
